Looking Ahead — Heath's Vision for Lake County

The progress made over the last few years is something to be proud of, but there's still more to do. Here's what Heath is focused on next:

National Accreditation: Heath is pursuing CALEA accreditation — a gold-standard certification for law enforcement agencies. It's a three-year process, but the result is an office that's independently verified to meet the highest professional standards. Think of it as a transparent, ongoing report card that holds the office accountable to the community.

Investing in Youth: From sports camps to programs on drug awareness, digital safety, and violence prevention, Heath wants to build real connections with Lake County's young people. A dedicated School Resource Officer will be at the heart of this effort — someone who's a trusted presence, not just a uniform.

Smarter, Data-Driven Policing: With several years of solid data now available, the office can be more strategic — putting the right resources in the right places to prevent crime before it happens, not just respond after the fact.

Taking Care of the Team: Law enforcement is one of the most demanding jobs there is. Heath believes a healthy, supported team serves the community better. Deputies have confidential access to therapists, critical incident debriefings, and inpatient care when needed. That said, Heath is clear: wellness support comes alongside high ethical standards — there is no tolerance for misconduct, period.

Stronger Partnerships: In a rural county, no agency can do it alone. Heath has spent years rebuilding trust with partner agencies, and those relationships are now stronger than ever. Continuing to grow those partnerships is essential to keeping Lake County safe.

Heath's commitment is simple — keep building, keep improving, and always put Lake County first.
