Heath is a proven leader — and his path to Sheriff is unlike most.
Growing up in Colorado Springs, Heath enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school, completing Security Forces training, Airman Leadership School, and the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy. He earned specialized qualifications as an Air Force Raven and Counter-Sniper, and served as a non-commissioned officer for over five years at locations around the world. Along the way, he earned two associate degrees — one in Criminal Justice and one in Business Administration.
After an honorable discharge in 2010, Heath took on a new challenge: running his own small business. That experience taught him how to manage budgets, lead a team, and take full responsibility for outcomes. He learned firsthand that lasting success comes from honest, committed service to others.
In 2016, Heath and his wife returned to Colorado, where he joined the Colorado State Patrol, completed the six-month academy, and earned his POST certification. He served the Leadville and Lake County community until 2022, when his deep connection to his neighbors and his desire to make a real difference led him to run for Sheriff.
That decision changed everything — for him and for Lake County.
Over the past four years, Heath has rebuilt the Sheriff's Office from the ground up, delivering real results while staying true to his values of Integrity, Service, and Excellence. He also serves as Board Chair for the Lake County 911 Authority, working to strengthen emergency communications across the county.
